Harvest Rainwater: Save on your water bill and help the environment.

Are you concerned about your water use? Have you received an excess water use bill (in Christchurch) or do you have high water use charges (other districts)? You may be interested in rainwater harvesting.

Due to climate change, extreme flooding events and droughts will be much more likely in the future. Rainwater harvesting can help with both. With your own rainwater tank, you can collect water from your roof which you can use to water your garden or wash your car during a drought (when there may be tap water restrictions for those uses). During heavy rainfall events storm water systems are often overloaded which can harm the environment. Storing rainwater from your roof for later release (or use), can help those storm water systems cope better.

Our rainwater tank installation service, includes a tap in the tank so water can be easily accessed. An installed overflow means any excess water when the tank is full, goes back into the storm water system.

What are the benefits of harvesting rainwater?

Cost savings: By collecting rainwater, you can significantly reduce your water bills or avoid excess water use charges.

Environmental benefits: Installing a rainwater tank is an easy way to help the environment. It can reduce pressure on tap water during droughts and on storm water systems during high rainfall events.

Security of outdoor water supply: With a filled rainwater tank, you can water your garden and wash your car, even during times of water restrictions.

Who can benefit

Our water tank installation service is perfect for any homeowner with at least a small backyard who wants to cut down on water expenses, is concerned about water restrictions or is looking for an easy way to help the environment.

How it works

Secure Garden Installation: The water tank is securely installed in your garden, providing easy access to the collected rainwater.

Roof Guttering Connection: Rainwater is directed from your roof guttering into the water tank, ensuring maximum capture efficiency.

Filtration System: A filtration system is fitted to ensure that rainwater is high-quality with leaves and other wastes removed.

Multi-Purpose Water Usage: You can utilize collected rainwater for gardening, washing vehicles, and household cleaning tasks. For additional charges and council consent, it can be used as Grey Water for toilets and washing machines.

Rainwater tanks don’t require building consent if they meet requirements for capacity and height above ground. For more information visit here.

Rainwater tank options

We offer water tanks in sizes ranging from 100 litres to 30,000 litres, catering to different household needs and preferences. We will quote you with the best-sized water tank for your property and your needs.

What size rainwater tank do I need?

The size of the rainwater tank is related to the size of your property and your daily water usage. Our experts will recommend the best size for your location during the free assessment.

The larger the tank, the more rainwater it can collect. The annual rainfall in Christchurch is about 65 cubic centimetres per year. This equates to 54 litres per month per square metre you can harvest.

If your house is 100 square metres, you could harvest 5400 litres per month. However, this assumes consistent rainfall. During summer, when there is not much rainfall, it may take longer for your rainwater tank to fill up. So, if you have a larger tank, you can use more water during periods of low rainfall.

You may not need that much rainwater for your property. Check out this handy graph to see how much rainwater you might use.

Pricing

The cost of the water tank installation depends on the size of your tank and the complexity of the installation. Water tank installation starts from approximately $1600 plus GST for a 425L tank. We will provide you with a quote after a site visit and discussing your needs.

If you live outside the Christchurch area, there may be an additional travel charge.
