* Level of subsidy depends on availability of funding at the time and insulation measures installed. Different insulation measures attract different levels of subsidies.

** There is no subsidy for wall insulation. However if you are relining internal walls or recladding external walls (e.g. as part of earthquake repairs) we strongly recommend getting a quote for wall insulation. Taking down linings would be a substantial part of any quote for wall insulation and there are concerns about some products that are pumped into walls through little holes.

*** Clean Heat subsidies include the Energywise subsidies and are available in Christchurch Clean Air Zone 1, Kaiapoi Clean Air Zone 1, Rangiora Clean Air Zone 1 and Ashburton Clean Air Zone 1 for properties with a solid fuel burner or open fire. Decommissioning (removal of logburner or boarding up of fireplace) required to qualify. A decommissining charge applies.

Why install insulation with Community Energy Action?

Community Energy Action has installed insulation in homes since 1994 so when we insulate your home, you can be assured it's done right. Insulation is installed by our own trained installers and we only use quality products. We audit installations to make sure your insulation is effective and safe.

That's not all there is to us though. Community Energy Action is a charitable trust and any surpluses we make are invested into our charitable programmes. These programmes ensure extra help for those vulnerable in our community and assist those who can least afford to keep warm and healthy.

Arranging a free expert assessment and quote

Arranging a free, expert assessment and quote is easy. Just fill in the form or give us a call. During the assessment the Community Energy Action assessor will also check whether any existing ceiling insulation has been dislodged by the earthquakes. Dislodged ceiling insulation can pose a fire risk when there are downlight or flues in the ceiling.

Although we prefer the landlord to contact us directly, we are also happy to take enquiries from tenants and we can contact the landlord on the tenant's behalf.

City Council and Housing New Zealand (HNZ) properties are not eligible for the subsidies. Please contact the council or HNZ directly if you have any concerns about insulation and heating in their properties.

How much will it cost?

How much the homeowner contribution will be for your property, depends on the size of your house, the insulation already present and your choice of heating (if you choose to have heating installed).

Community Energy Action will take care of the paperwork of the subsidies and you only need to sign the quote. The subsidies are already deducted from the total amount in your quote.

If you have trouble paying the amount quoted, do not disregard the quote! A warm and comfortable home is a healthy home and as a charitable trust Community Energy Action is committed to warm homes for people of all incomes. There are several options to ensure you can also have a warm home.

  • Contact your bank if you are a homeowner:

Most major banks have agreed to be flexible with top-ups for mortgages and waive service fees if you use the top-up for the installation of insulation and heating under the ENERGYWISETM subsidy scheme. Please contact your bank for more details.

  • If you have a baby, are over 65, have a health condition or are in financial hardship:

If you have a Community Services Card and are unable to pay the homeowner's contribution for insulation and/or heating or get a mortgage top-up, we encourage you to contact us. We may be able to arrange finance options that suit your situation or arrange extra funding through our charitable programmes over and above the subsidies outlined here.

Don't sit around in a cold home because you cannot afford to keep warm and cannot afford the quote. Take action today!
