Improved Standards Of Insulation And Increased Funding From The Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority For Low Income Households (June 2008)
CEA welcomes the recent Government decision that will see EECA provide 60% funding for low income insulation retrofit projects. This increased funding recognises significantly increased costs faced through new insulation standards (see below), and the increased funding difficulties being faced by community providers. It also does away with the previous two tier funding regime, which was very discriminatory.
CEA and the Energy Efficiency Community Network (EECN) worked closely with EECA to secure the increased funding. CEA made a comprehensive submission outlining areas of concern. While we are very pleased with the initial Government response, there are still some issues yet to be resolved. In particular, CEA is concerned that the funding regime for heating appliances still does not provide assistance to low income households if they are not part of a clean air scheme.
